How to Add and Remove Apps from The Dock

Being able to access everything you need is important. But it is even better when you can access them easily. On a Mac, whether it is a laptop or a desktop, there is a dock at the bottom of the monitor. This is where the icons and apps are displayed so you don't have to search through the Finder to find what you need. Some examples of icons or apps that are o the dock may include Safari, Garage Band, and Keynote.

To remove an app or icon from the dock, the first thing you have to do is right click on the icon you wish to remove. You should see a window that looks like this:

The next thing that you want to do is go under the Options tab.

You will then see an option to remove it from the dock. When you click this, it will not disappear immediately. It will be removed from the dock after you close the application.

To add an application or icon back to the dock, you first have to open it. When you do, the icon will appear on the right side of the dock.

After you have opened the application and it appears on the dock, you will need to right click on the icon.

Again, you will have to go under the Options tab.

You will then see the option to "Keep in Dock". You will want to click this. Once you have done that, after you close the application, the icon will stay in the dock.

So that is how to add and remove applications from the dock on a Mac. If you have any questions, feel free to contact me at sarahdoyle@rsu57.org or techhelpdesk@rsu57.org.
