Our Eyes in the Sky, Drones

Drones, our eyes in the sky, used in all sorts of logistical applications. Some of those include anywhere from if you want a cool video you can get a high angle camera shot, to the military uses them for drone strikes, and to get behind the scene footage. They are good at getting the picture needed for things such as inspection of things like oil rigs, bridges, power lines, etc. There are different types of drones, some of these include: Multi-Rotor, Fixed-Wing, Single-Rotor Helicopter, and the Fixed-Wing Hybrid VTOL (Vertical Take-off and Landing).

Multi-Rotor drones are easy to use, they are accessible in most markets, they take of vertically, they have easy to control cameras, and they can be operated in a small area, some drawbacks include short fly times, and its inability to carry heavy loads. The price typically ranges $5,000-$65,000 for professional drones.

Fixed-Wing Drones have long endurance, as far as battery life. It covers a large area (usually for ground mapping and uses like that), it flies fast through the air, the setbacks of this category of drones is the fact that there is no VTOL and no hover landing, it’s harder to fly, and it requires more training to fly. The price is typically $25,000-$120,000 for professional drones.

Single-Rotor Drones, have VTOL and hovering abilities, it has “long endurance and it's gassed powered, and it can carry a lot. Drawbacks include that it is harder to fly, requires training, and it is more dangerous than the other ones.

However, those are only the “professional drones,” there are always the ones at Walmart, and various other stores as well as online for sale with more of a residential use in mind, that are significantly cheaper.

Drones are very useful, especially in the military. They can use it to drop bombs, get behind enemy lines with a smaller device, not risking as many lives. There is no exact statistic, but I would not be surprised of they have saved hundreds of lives. Drones are used in Hollywood to get the high angle, or action shots that are so cool in the movies. Then, there is the residential use, that is to do things like spy on your siblings, maybe see something on your roof, and they are just overall to fly around. Schools can use them if they have a film class, or theatre or something like that. Or for special projects, I know there was a project in 8th grade, where we launched rockets, drones could provide cool footage. There are other projects that could use them as well. If you ever have any extra money, I would considering buying one of these amazing feats of technology.
