Finding Files

You may have taken a screenshot or downloaded something on your Chromebook and wondered where it has gone. All of those things go to the Files app! Files is found in the launch we talked about in Getting to Know Your Chromebook.

Files is very helpful so maybe you want to add it to the bar at the bottom of your screen.

To do that, when you see it in the launch menu, alt click it. You’ll see pin to shelf as one of the first options. The “shelf” is the bar you want, so choose it! Now it’s easy access! To unpin something just alt click it while it’s on the shelf.

You can do this with websites too! Just click the 3 dots in the upper right hand corner, go to more tools, then pin to shelf!

Back to Files. In Files you can see anything you’ve downloaded on the Chromebook or anything that was in you Google Drive! Any images or videos as well as documents and slideshows can be found here. If you click “My Drive” it opens and shows you all of your folders, then you can get inside those as well. (Ignore the hole as I am using someone else's Google Drive and wanted to leave out their folders just incase.)

When you go to attach anything in an email, the Files app will open up, so it’s important to understand how to find things inside of it. That’s why you can also organize it. You can move things that you’ve downloaded on the Chromebook into your Google Drive. Just dragging a download to one of your folders in your drive will move it there so you can find it on other devices!
